The Albert Shand Memorial Lectures

Since 2007, a group of Friends have gathered in the Kirk to enjoy a series of lectures given by Cryle Shand.  The lectures have centred on local characters and events that have coloured Forgue’s history.  As their memorials bear witness, most have found their final resting place in our Kirkyard.

2014: The Bognie Arms Hotel.

2013: The Creightons of Frendraught.

2012: Five Forgue families from the 19thC. They shaped the early history of Canada.

2011: Robert Simpson of Cobairdy and The Revd. James Cordiner, Minister of Forgue. The Voters of Forgue in the 19th century.

2010: The Revd. Alexander Allardyce and his Wife. Ann Dundas Blair – Poet and Writer.

2009: James Allardyce and the First Sixty years of The Glendronach Distillery.

2008: Lives and Times of the Morison’s of Bognie and Forbes of Boyndlie Families.

2007: Col. Alexander Shand of Templeland Soldier – Improver Laird – Antiquary. Alexander Shand of Conland “The King of Forgue”.

Each talk has been accompanied by a detailed and generously illustrated booklet.  They have proved very popular and make a fascinating read.  They are on sale for £5 each.  All proceeds towards Kirk Funds – apply to The Secretary, The Old Manse of Forgue
